About this collection

Joseph Nusser immigrated to New York City in 1900 from the Mount Lebanon region with two of his sons Joseph (Yousif) Jr. and Elias. Joseph had converted to the Protestant faith in Lebanon and came to the U.S. to avoid persecution. Joseph worked as peddler before returning to Mount Lebanon in 1903, where is met his second wife Rose. In 1906, he and Rose returned to the U.S., and settled down in the vibrant Little Syria community in New York City.
